In last week's blog I shared some insights from my recent training course, Brilliant Babies.
This week, I thought it would be useful to share some examples of sensory play.
My son is currently exploring the baskets we have created. Included in ours are plastic spoons, bowls, wooden beads and brown package paper envelope. It makes a fantastic noise and has a great texture. There are endless resources that can be found in your own homes.
Here's a treasure basket that our baby room practitioner, Natalia, created recently.
This time my older son got involved and enjoyed creating sensory bottles for his brother. We simply added rice and pasta, pom poms and Lego bricks into different bottles. In another one, we added washing up liquid and water.
With the five bottles filled and securely sealed for safety, my baby enjoyed shaking and moving the different bottles. A great visual and auditory sesnory activity. Next time, we will add different textures to the outside of the bottles.
Sensory play doesn't have to mean goimg out and buying lots of messy resources! We have collected various balls over time and they provide an excellent sensory experience when used together. We have different textures, some with lights, different weights, sparkes and sounds.
For toddlers, different shapes and sizes offer the opportunity to explore movement. Question such as:
Will the odd shape ball roll straight or from side to side?
Do different sized balls more at different speeds?
Which one is heavier?
I hope you enjoy trying these out with your little ones! We'll certainly be having lots of fun at Toddletown!
