Story and Movement
This is all about getting children to think outside the box when it comes to reading and story time. We want story time to awaken children's imaginations and get them being creative. This type of activity encourages these things.
What you will need
A much-loved story book
A child who is preferably not tired or hungry so they are much more willing to cooperate!!
Now I’m going to leave a lot of this up to you and for your interpretation, I’m just here to give you some ideas and examples that you can run with...
So, let’s say we’ve gone with the story ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’. While reading the story you will pause at each section where there is a new sound and set your child with the task of finding something in the house that makes a similar sound. They must then make the sounds for that section instead of you.
This also works for doing actions. For example with the book ‘Dear Zoo’, every time you say what animal the zoo has sent, your child must move and make noises in the way they believe that specific animal would do. This just gives a new dynamic to reading and helps your child develop a sense of storytelling.
We'd love to hear what stories you've tried this with and how it went!
