Spring Themed Nature Eggs

Simple activities are so often the most effective!

Does your little one love to collect 'treasure' while out for a walk, or exploring the garden? Or if the weather isn't very Spring like for you, finding little pieces of treasure in drawers and button boxes? If so, this activity will provide a perfect use for all those little bits and pieces!

This lovely idea from Early Years Outdoor can be done by cutting out an egg shape from paper or cardboard, or by using leaves which you may or may not want to then cut!

Once you have your egg shape ready, use your treasure (flower petals make a lovely addition!) to decorate your eggs.

Some of the fantastic skills development involved in this activity:

  • Awareness of the world around us as we take a walk outside and look for signs of Spring and learn about different flowers
  • Cutting skills! Using scissors safely and developing fine motor skills.
  • Pincer grip as we pikc up those fiddly pieces of treasure! You could even add in some tweezers for this part.
  • Shape as we talk about the different shapes we cut and create and use.
  • Colours!
  • Mathematical concepts such as patterns and how shapes fit together.
  • Expressing ourselves through art and design.

What design will you go for! We'd love to see your finished nature eggs!
